The Fairfax Boulevard Partnership and the City of Fairfax entered into a contract with Dover, Kohl & Partners, a nationally recognized planning firm, to develop a Master Plan and Design Guidelines to shape the future of the Fairfax Corridor. These two documents will be created with considerable input from the City’s residents, businesses, and land owners.

The Master Plan will serve as a general guide to the redevelopment efforts along the Corridor. All plans for improvements in the public right-of-way, plans for establishing a distinctive identity for the Corridor, and any general changes to the character of the Corridor will be addressed in the Master Plan. The Master Plan will include recommendations for desirable types of development along various portions of the Corridor, individual case studies addressing public improvements, buffers to residential neighborhoods, and the improvements to the streetscape. Urban design guidelines that address the relationships between buildings and streets will also be covered by the Master Plan.

The Design Guidelines will guide the design and review of architecture and landscaping of future private development along the Corridor. Specific architectural details preferred for buildings and sites will be covered in the Design Guidelines.

The Draft Master Plan dated May 15, 2007 has not been finalized yet. However, when finalized it will be available to the public.
